Multicultural environment, the existing reality is also a challenge for a democratic country. Religious dimension of the intercultural education to be held on 22 December 2009 in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
The Caucasus Institute has been cooperating with the bureau of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Tbilisi for many years. The latest joint project was the conference held on July 4-5, 2009 concerning "Intercultural and Interreligious Education for Promoting Tolerance”.
The second joint conference in December 2009 aims to revisit and re-assess the role of education and to look into the prospects of intercultural and interreligious education in school. Being confident that education can promote intercultural dialogue, interaction, and critical reflection, and foster a strong sense of own cultural identity, we welcome comments and opinions of experts interested in these problems, and invite them to share both methodological-didactic and practical experience.
Each country of the Black Sea region has a historical experience of the multicultural and multireligious relations. Participants of the conference will discuss ways to promote tolerance and intercultural dialogue, especially through upbringing and education, examine cultural experiences of the different countries and share knowledge and best practice in this sphere.
It is to estimate once again the importance of the intercultural education with regard to religious dimension. How can we combine the religious dimension of the multicultural education with the secular model of the contemporary society? What political, educational matters should be employed to make cultural differences a valuable resource for all?
Participants are expected to reflect on these issues from different perspectives (theology, religious and cultural studies, philosophy, political and social sciences) and come up with respective proposals.
The general themes of the conference:
The existing challenges of the multicultural countries in the contemporary world (the experience of the Black Sea countries)
The perspective and necessity of intercultural and interreligious dialogue (country experience)
The religious dimension of the intercultural education and its role in formation of educated and tolerant civilians
The date of the conference: December 22, 2009
Please submit the title and thesis (maximum 200 words) of your speech not later than December 2.
